The mirabelle plum is the fruit of the mirabellier, a variety of plum tree. A small round yellow plum, it is smaller than its cousin Reine Claude. It is a juicy and sweet fruit mainly widespread in the North-East of France, in Lorraine. In 1996, the mirabelle plum from Lorraine was the first fruit to receive the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP), which guarantees its origin and specificity. This fruit can be eaten both raw and cooked, pan-fried, in pies, compotes or jams.
