Originally from Central Asia, the almond first arrived in Egypt thanks to the Hebrews, then spread to Europe with the Greeks. The almond arrived in France in the 5th century. During the Middle Ages, it held an important place in meals. It was not until the 16th century that France began to seriously cultivate almonds, in the south of the country, as this shrub only tolerates hot climates.
