Wild bananas are not eaten, they contain many seeds and little pulp. It was only with domestication, 5,000 to 10,000 years ago, that this fruit became edible as we know it today. The market is colossal with no less than 130 million tonnes produced each year. The main producing countries are India, China, the Philippines, Brazil and Ecuador.
The banana is consumed as a fruit or a vegetable (plantain) depending on the region of the world. It is not a juicy fruit, it can be pureed to be mixed into a drink.
